The Philadelphia Inquirer has a report Saturday that states former Penn State assistant athletic director Mark Sherburne was fired from the university after he was found with documents regarding Tim Curley.

Curley, on paid administrative leave, is awaiting trial for his perjury case in connection with the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, along with retired vice president of finance and business Gary Schultz.

The Inquirer, citing an unnamed source, reported Sherburne had been warned in the past for trying to get rid of documents he did not think were pertinent to the case. In this instance, there was no indication he was trying to do so, according to the report.

Mark Sherburne, an assistant athletic director at Penn State, no longer works at the university, the school confirmed Friday.

Sherburne was temporarily named acting athletic director after Tim Curley was placed on paid administrative leave in early November in wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

Sherburne’s name is no longer listed on the athletic department’s website.

A 1986 graduate of State College High School, he played on both the football and baseball teams at Penn State, and was a freshman on the 1986 national championship team.

Sherburne’s wife, Susan, remains employed in the College of Health and Human Development.
