THON got an early surprise on Friday night when just before 8 p.m., the lights dimmed and Joe Jonas (of Jonas Brothers fame) and his band DNCE took the stage for a thrilling performance.
The funk and dance-rock outfit worked through several of their own hits, including ‘Cake by the Ocean,’ and ‘Toothbrush’ and tossed in a couple quick covers of Britney Spears and the Spice Girls as well.
“We’re doing this for the kids, am I right?” Jonas asked the crowd after the band’s second song, ‘Pay My Rent.’
The set concluded with Jonas venturing out into the crowd, standing on tables and greeting supporters in the stands before he and the band (and the Nittany Lion, who had joined them on stage) made their exit.
Jonas is no stranger to the Penn State universe. The Jonas Brothers’ manager was, Phil McIntyre, a State College native. Another State College native Jason Ganter, a former Penn State football player, was Jonas’ right-hand man as his executive assistant.
Jonas celebrated his 21st birthday at The Phyrst in 2010, and was spotted at the Rose Bowl sporting Penn State gear.
