A judge sentenced the man who robbed a State College jewelry shop in 2013 to more than 20 years in federal prison.
U.S. Magisterial District Judge Matthew W. Brann sentenced 42-year-old Rodger Kent Williams to 20½ years in federal prison for robbing the Kranich’s Jewelers store in the 200 block of East College Avenue in January of 2013 and for robbing a second jewelry store in Cary, N.C.
The total retail loss in the Kranich’s incident was $950,000, according to authorities. Police say stolen items included a large quantity of women’s and men’s jewelry, including Simon G, Harout R and Michael Kors brands. Some pieces were samples made from sterling silver and cubic zirconia stones, police said.
Police say Williams and two other men entered the store armed with a .357-caliber Magnum, which was displayed to Kranich’s employees. The group demanded the keys to the display case and robbed an employee of his wallet, Rolex watch, diamond ring and gold bracelet, causing the victim a personal loss of $8,800, police said.
The two other thieves are still on the loose.
The sentence, issued Tuesday, was the result of Williams’ guilty plea to charges of carrying a firearm while committing a violent crime and interference with commerce by threats of violence.
