Kathleen Kane: I Want to Find the Truth for Penn State

Candidate for Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane has only six days left until the election, but her campaign bus isn’t slowing down yet. 

Kane, a career prosecutor from Philadelphia, had breakfast with a crowd of supporters at Irving’s, 110 E. College Ave., for an informal meet-and-greet. Over the course of her career, Kane said she has dealt with many cases involving child abuse and said she’s prepared to investigate Gov. Tom Corbett’s handling of the Jerry Sandusky case when he was handed it as attorney general. 

‘People deserve the truth,’ Kane said. She spoke one-on-one with State College residents and members of the Penn State community who expressed concern for the ongoing situation as a result of the fallout from Jerry Sandusky’s sex crimes against children coming to light. Kane assured them that if elected, she will get to the bottom of it. 

‘The next attorney general needs to do the job for the right reasons. I know I will do the job that they deserve to have done,’ Kane said. 

‘We need to find out why [the grand jury investigation] was left on the streets for 33 months – to me, that’s too long and we need to find out why.’ 

Members of the Centre County Democrats and the College Democrats were on hand to stand in solidarity with the campaign. 

Drew McGehrin, president of the College Democrats, said it means a lot to students to see a candidate take so much care and promise action on a delicate subject that has personally affected so many people, on some level, in the Centre Region.

‘I think it’s fantastic. There’s never been a Democrat in the attorney general seat – and now, she’s soaring in the polls,’ McGehrin said. 

Kane, flanked family members including her children, sister and husband – a former truck driver who is driving the campaign bus – left State College around 10 a.m., bound for Harrisburg, Reading and finally Philadelphia – though not before ordering some of IRving’s homemade bagels to go. 

‘Just had the most delicious bagel at Irving’s in State College!’ Kane tweeted.

Election Day is Nov. 6.
