Drivers will encounter a change in traffic control patterns next week as work continues for bridge rehabilitation on a section of U.S. Route 322 in College Township, according to PennDOT.

Starting Tuesday, June 3, to reset temporary barriers and apply temporary paint markings to reopen the right lane of 322 eastbound spanning Warner Boulevard and Spring Creek near the Oak Hall interchange. The contractor will then close the left lane and begin demolition for the second phase of construction.

The existing right lane closure on 322 westbound will remain in place, PennDOT wrote in a news release.

The project, which began in April, is expected to be completed at the end of August, though work is weather-dependent.

George S Hann & Son, Inc. of Littleton is the contractor on the $2 million project. The contract also included work completed last year on the University Drive bridge spanning East College Avenue in State College.

Rehabilitation of the eastbound and westbound bridges near Oak Hall will improve the ride quality, extend their service life and move their overall condition ratings from fair to good, according to PennDOT. Overall work involves pouring new concrete decking, joint sealing, repairing the bridge railing and paving the approaches.

It’s one of two PennDOT bridge restoration projects underway this season in College Township.

Work also began in April on the Elmwood Street bridge spanning U.S. Route 322 near Lemont in the area of the Route 26-State College exit.

Some short-term lane closures were in place on 322 at the start of that project for work underneath the bridge. The bridge is expected to be fully closed on Elmwood Street this summer for work to be completed, with a timeframe still to be announced.
