Lane Switch Planned for Pike Street Construction in Lemont

Construction on Pike Street in Lemont is expected to switch to the opposite lane next week as work continues for phase 2 of the traffic calming and accessibility project in the village.

The switch to work on the southwest-bound lane is expected to take place on Tuesday, according to a notice from College Township. The contractor was scheduled to begin relocating barriers on Thursday in anticipation of the move.

One-way traffic on Pike Street will be maintained heading northeast from Elmwood Street toward East College Avenue. The traffic pattern will remain in place throughout construction, which is expected to finish in November.

“Every effort will be made to ensure that access to the businesses located on Pike Street remains open throughout the project,” according to the township.

Traffic from College Avenue headed to points beyond Dale Street is being detoured to Elmwood Street.

Phase two of the Pike Street project includes curbing, stormwater upgrades, delineated parallel parking, curb ramps and full sidewalk along both sides of Pike Street between Elmwood and Dale streets. Construction began in May and paving was recently completed on the initial work area on the east side of the road.

Phase one, which was completed in 2021, included water and gas line relocations.

Bowman Excavating, Paving and Concrete of Bellefonte is the contractor on the $1.5 million project.`
