Beginning Monday morning drivers on Whitehall Road will need to watch out for some significant changes on the heavily-traveled thoroughfare.

PennDot says both lanes of traffic will be shifting near the intersection of Whitehall and College Avenue. Both lanes will also be moving near the intersection of Whitehall and Waupelani Drive. The lane shifts were originally planned for last week but were delayed.

Construction crews will be doing grading work on both sides of Whitehall Road.

The $10.3 million dollar project is supposed to be finished by mid-November. The road is being widened and a center left turn lane is being added, along with bicycle lanes and new traffic signals.

PennDot says once the work is completed travel on Whitehall Road, “will be smoother, less congested and more efficient.”

Drivers need to watch out for construction vehicles entering and leaving the area. Traffic is frequently controlled by flaggers at various locations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

PennDOT asks everyone to share the road with bicyclists and to use caution when driving near people riding bikes. Pennsylvania law requires drivers to maintain at least four feet between their vehicles and bicycles. And don’t forget to watch out for pedestrians trying to cross Whitehall road.
