State College Area football coach Matt Lintal has been named the Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth Division Coach of the Year, and linebacker Pete Haffner was named co-Defensive MVP.

Lintal led the Little Lions to a 9-1 regular season record and a win in the subregional playoff against Erie McDowell last weekend. State High next faces Williamsport at 7 p.m. Friday in Selinsgrove for the first round of the PIAA Class 6A playoffs.

‘It is a huge credit to our tremendous football coaches, strength coaches, training staff, managers and our players that we are honored with this award,’ Lintal said in a release. ‘I am so proud to work with these individuals everyday in supporting our student-athletes.’

Lintal, a 1999 State High graduate, has a 25-12 record as Little Lion head coach.
