Local Police Participating in Aggressive-Driving Enforcement Initiative

Police from Ferguson, Patton and Spring Townships and State College are part of a statewide initiative now through May 1 to conduct targeted aggressive driving enforcement.

The enforcement wave aims to reduce the number of aggressive driving-related crashes, injuries and deaths across the Commonwealth, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket.

The initiative will focus on speeding, work-zone safety violations and keeping right-passing left. Drivers who are going too fast for conditions, following another vehicle too closely or otherwise being aggressive also will receive citations.

This is the second statewide enforcement wave for aggressive driving. Last fall’s campaign saw municipal police write 53,000 aggressive-driving related citations, including 35,126 for speeding.The enforcement also accounted for 61 felony arrests and 107 DUIs.

Local police will be among 235 municipal agencies as well as Pennsylvania State Police who will be participating in the current initiative.

Centre County Judge Thomas Kistler and police representatives kicked off the event for the local areas with a press conference outside Centre County Courthouse on Monday.
