A Spring Mills man was shot and killed Friday and a Pleasant Gap man has been charged with murder.

Spring Township Police responded at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday to a residence on Whitman Avenue in Pleasant Gap, where a 60-year-old man who was visiting the home had been shot in the head and killed.

Ardell Matthew Gross, 36, was taken into custody and allegedly told police he shot the man, a relative of Gross who has not yet been identified, after an argument about the recent death and estate of another family member. He reportedly told police he retrieved a gun from his bedroom and shot the man multiple times, according to a police statement.

Gross was charged with first and third degree murder and aggravated assault and was arraigned Saturday morning by District Judge Thomas Jordan. He is being held in the Centre County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 8.
