A Ferguson Township man who allegedly sought to confront his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend over car damage is now facing two felony charges.
According to a criminal complaint, Ferguson Township Police were dispatched at about 4 a.m. on Friday to a Grimsby Heights residence where Tang Rui, 23, had entered, walked up to his ex-girlfriend’s second-floor bedroom, knocked on the door and asked to speak to her current boyfriend.
Police said the three went downstairs and began arguing about damage to his vehicle that Rui wanted the boyfriend to fix. A fight ensued, and the boyfriend told police that Rui punched him in the chest multiple times before friends of Rui entered the residence and helped break up the altercation.
Rui told police that he was upset that his ex-girlfriend had ruined his tire rims while he was out of the country in December, and when he knocked on her door he asked to speak to her boyfriend because he did not want to argue with her. Rui allegedly said that after they went downstairs he poked the boyfriend in the chest and the fight ensued, but that they both punched each other and he did not remember who struck whom first.
During the fight, the back door of the residence was damaged and came off its hinges.
Police said Rui was intoxicated and had a strong odor of alcohol.
Rui was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass, along with summary offenses of harassment and criminal mischief.
He was arraigned before District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker and straight monetary bail was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
