Ferguson Township will soon be looking for a new manager.
Township Manager Centrice Martin informed the Board of Supervisors that she will not seek renewal of her employment agreement when it expires in January, board chair Jeremie Thompson said at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“On behalf of the board we extend our heartfelt appreciation to manager Martin for her steadfast leadership, her dedication to public service and her many contributions to the well-being of our community,” Thompson said. “Her commitment has left a lasting mark and we wish her future success in all of her endeavors.”
The township “has commenced the process of identifying an interim manager,” Thompson said, and in the coming weeks will announce a national search for the next permanent manager.
Martin, who has been in the role for nearly four years, did not immediately respond on Wednesday to a request for comment about her reason for stepping down or her final date of employment with the township.
In an email to staff, she wrote that it was a “personal and thoughtful decision.”
“Over the next several weeks, my priority will be to continue supporting staff and ensuring an organized, steady transition,” she wrote. “Our work continues, and the services we provide to this community remain as important as ever. I remain committed to the same level of professionalism, accountability, and collaborative problem-solving that has guided our work together. I am deeply grateful for the dedication each of you brings to Ferguson Township and for all we have accomplished as a team.”
Martin has been a member of the Ferguson Township administration since 2018, serving as assistant to the manager then assistant manager before being appointed as the township’s first female manager in 2022. She previously was assistant to the borough manager for community engagement in State College.
Earlier this year, Martin received the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence, and state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Rush Township, was on hand at Monday’s meeting to present her with a citation for the honor.
