Prominent Jewish reggae/rock/hip-hop artist Matisyahu will play a free show on Wednesday at Indigo, 112 W. College Ave. The show is sponsored by Penn State Hillel. Matisyahu will be joined by Nadim Azzam, an acoustic hip-hop artist who will perform as the opening act.

While the show is free, attendees need to reserve a ticket at Hillel’s website, and all concert-goers will need to be 18 and show ID at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. and Azzam will start performing at 9 p.m. The show comes as the second stop on a tour of college campuses across the country, including five other Big Ten schools.

After the show, Hillel and the Israel Ambassadors Group will host a celebration of the Jewish holiday Purim at Indigo. Purim begins the night of the show, and is typically celebrated as a  festive holiday. Hillel also will invite select students from various organizations to a discussion with Matisyahu and Azzam

Matisyahu is best known for his 2006 album Youth, which climbed as high as No. 4 on the American charts and was certified as a gold album. He developed a strong following in part due to his religious beliefs as an orthodox Jew, and strong ties to Israel.
