Two men are sentenced to probation for an assault that followed the Fourth Fest fireworks display on July 4.
The pair, along with a third defendant, attacked a man in the parking lot outside Beaver Stadium.
They kicked the victim’s car, causing thousands of dollars in damages. When the victim got out of his vehicle he was knocked to the ground, kicked and punched.
The man suffered a broken wrist along with multiple bruises and abrasions.
Joshua Carovinci, was convicted of assault, reckless endangering another person, criminal mischief and harassment. He was sentenced to 3 years of probation.
Co-defendant Charles Stout was sentenced to 2 years of probation for assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
A third defendant, Christopher Stout, will be sentenced on January 28, 2014. Christopher Stout was also convicted of assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
Prosecutors asked the judge to impose jail sentences on the defendants due to the severity of the attack. They pointed out that Charles Stout had already done time for a previous conviction for DUI, making a terroristic threat and recklessly endangering another person in 2002.
Centre County District Attorney, Stacy Parks Miller believes there were compelling reasons to sentence the defendants to jail. She says, “We are constrained by the sentence the judge handed down. Families should be able to attend the fireworks without worrying about being attacked by thugs.”
