Penn State men’s basketball lost for the third straight game Saturday night, falling to Duquesne, 66-59, despite a hot first half when the team shot 46 percent from the field.
The Nittany Lions had a 32-29 lead at the half but were unable to overcome a 16-3 run by Duquesne to start the second half. Penn State was down by as many as 11 due in large part to Duquesne’s defensive pressure, which the Nittany Lions were unable to break.
Penn State was able to climb back to make the score 63-59 after a Jermaine Marshall three with 40 seconds left. The Nittany Lions had a few opportunities to cut the lead further, but turned the ball over twice in the remaining seconds.
Marshall and Tim Frazier led the way for the Nittany Lions with 12 and 15 points, respectively, but ball handling plagued Penn State all evening as the team totaled 23 turnovers. Many were unforced.
Freshman guard Trey Lewis saw limited time, with an ankle injury that has plauged him since the preseason, and forward Jon Graham continues to be out while he recovers from an illness.
Penn State will take this week off for final exams before returning to the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 18, when the Nittany Lions will take on Mount St. Mary’s in a 4 p.m. tip. That game can be viewed on the Big Ten Network and is part of a double-header with the Lady Lions, who will take on Wagner at 1 p.m. The Nittany Lions are now 6-5 under new head Coach Pat Chambers.
