Hi, everybody!
Well, as you all know this past weekend, our beloved coach Joe reached yet another milestone in his career: 408 wins. Four hundred and eight! Congrats, JoePa!
Many of these memorable victories have happened right here in Happy Valley for all of us to be a part of; others, like this past weekend’s, have been away. Of course, like many folks, I watched the 408th win in my living room on the couch with my family. As much as I prefer the home games, which bring in friends from out of town, the most delicious tailgate food and endless football strategy discussions, away games are nice because it allows me time to check out other events going on around town.
This football season I have been lucky to get to at least one high school football game at each of our five Centre County high schools. I have also followed Central Mountain’s high school football team this year as my brother-in-law’s son, Nicholas, is a senior on the team and has had a great year.
Besides the actual high school football games, I’ve really noticed each school’s band as many play before and after the game — as well as all throughout and during halftime.
I’ve been able to take in a couple PSU soccer and ice hockey games. Besides attending other-than-football sporting events this past weekend, I was able to work on planning ahead for our home’s landscaping. This is close to the time when I plant the spring bulbs. Although I’ve been advised that it is still a bit too early to plant them (because the deer and other wildlife are still around to eat them), I prefer to plant them now because in November the ground is so much harder to dig up.
On Sunday, I planted the bulbs and am just hoping that the deer in our area are more interested in next week’s football game — against Illinois — than my future flowers.
After next weekend, I’m looking forward to celebrating several exciting milestones, including my younger daughter Michaela’s birthday and — hopefully — victory No. 409 for JoePa.
