Drivers should plan for travel delays next week in the Potters Mills Gap area of Route 322, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Crews will be cutting and removing trees between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday along the two-lane section of the road. Traffic will be stopped in both directions in 10 to 15 minute cycles.
Earlier this week, motorists encountered traffic backups as barriers were put in place in preparation for the tree removal.
The tree cutting is being done as an extension of phase two of PennDOT’s Potters Mills Gap project and must be completed before work on phase three can begin.
Phase one constructed the new bridge at Sand Mountain Road and phase two created the new, recently completed local interchange for Route 322 and Sand Mountain Road.
Phase three will reconstruct Route 322 from Sand Mountain Road to Potters Mills and will include a new Route 322/Route 144 intersection.
Once completed, the project is expected to alleviate congestion and allow traffic to move more safely and efficiently from the Centre/Mifflin County line to Potters Mills.
