Penn State students, athletes and community members will have another chance to take on the demanding workout honoring Penn State alumnus and Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy when the Michael Murphy Memorial Warrior Games return to University Park this weekend.
Omega Delta Sigma, Penn State’s veterans service fraternity, and the Arnold Air Society will host the 2026 event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in Wagner Gym.
Participants can complete the workout individually or form teams of four and divide the repetitions among team members. Registration costs $20 per person and includes a T-shirt, while same-day registration will cost $25 with a limited number of shirts available.
Prizes will be awarded to the fastest female, fastest male and fastest team.
The workout, commonly known as the Murph Challenge, consists of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and another one-mile run. The challenge is based on one of Murphy’s favorite workouts and has become an annual fitness event held around the country to honor his service and sacrifice.
Murphy graduated from Penn State in 1998 with degrees in psychology and political science before becoming a Navy SEAL. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2005 while attempting to save his teammates during Operation Red Wings and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
The annual challenge has been held at Penn State for years as a way to preserve Murphy’s legacy while raising money for the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Scholarship Foundation.
Previous Warrior Games have included individual and team competitions, with teams able to split the pull-ups, push-ups and squats while each participant completes both one-mile runs.
Omega Delta Sigma is a Penn State student organization that provides veterans and military members with opportunities for networking, leadership, community service and professional development.
