Music Festival Returns to Tussey Mountain Friday Night

Music lovers who enjoy the outdoors are getting set for an annual music festival that’s returning to Tussey Mountain on Friday night.

Previously known as Music on the Mountain, the third annual event, now called the Thickhead Music Festival, will kick-off at 5 p.m. Friday featuring local bands The Perkolators and Red Royal.

Headlining the event will be Flux Capacitor from the Philadelphia area.

Organizers recently renamed the event after the Thickhead Mountain Wild Area in Rothrock State Forest, not far from Tussey Mountain.

Aaron Weyman, spokesman for Tussey Mountain, says the event is an opportunity to showcase local musicians and offer an outdoor entertainment experience unlike any other in the State College area.

This year, Weyman says organizers reached beyond the State College area and brought in Flux Capacitor. Weyman predicts the band will hit the national stage in the near future.

“They’re big on festival scene and they’re really talented, a trio of three talented musicians,” he says.

Beyond the music, Weyman says there will be plenty to experience at Tussey Mountain, with activities like Go-Karts and mini-golf also available, along with food and Otto’s beer.

“It’s just a great location. We feel really fortunate to be where we’re at in Happy Valley. With the sunset when it’s a pleasant night, it’s just a beautiful place,” says Weyman. “It’s just a unique event. It’s not something you can really get anywhere else.”

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.
