CBS News first reported Sunday that the NCAA will announce ‘unprecedented’ penalties against both the Penn State football team and the school.
The NCAA responded by saying that that it will levy ‘corrective and punitive measures.’
NCAA President Mark Emmert will make the announcement Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the organization’s headquarters in Indianapolis. He will be joined by Ed Ray, the chairman of the NCAA’s executive committee and Oregon State’s president.
ESPN’s Joe Schad said the Nittany Lions are facing the loss of bowl games and scholarships, but not the so-called death penalty.
The NCAA had been awaiting Penn State’s response to four key questions pertaining to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, including issues involving institutional control and ethics.
Early Sunday morning, Penn State President Rodney Erickson signed off on removing Joe Paterno’s statue from near Beaver Stadium. That process was completed around 8:20 a.m.
First-year Penn State coach Bill O’Brien and three players are scheduled to speak at the Big Ten Conference meetings in Chicago Thursday and Friday.
