After coaching at the college level, in the NBA Developmental League, and assisting with the Nigerian men’s national team at the Rio Olympics this summer, Chris Leazier was offered a coaching job that was too good to pass up. He’s the new head coach of the State High girls basketball team.

‘I thought why not continue on the theme of having the strangest basketball coaching trajectory known to humankind,’ Leazier says.

Leazier was a philosophy Ph.D. student at DePaul when he caught the coaching bug, and his path has taken him around the country, and the world.

His wife, Amy Allen, is head of the department of philosophy at Penn State, which brought Leazier to State College in 2015. He was named head coach of the Lady Little Lions in October.

Centre County Report’s Mike Gilbert talks with Leazier about his career and transitioning to State High head coach.
