Pedestrian Mall: The State College Borough Council voted 4-2 Monday night against closing Allen Street to traffic, the Centre Daily Times reported. Council members argued the loss of parking spaces, increased traffic elsewhere and the possible attraction to ‘derelicts’ as reasons not to close off the street.

Spring Creek Canyon: Republican state Rep. Kerry Benninghoff told the Centre Daily Times that legislation dividing up Rockview prison land could be introduced before July.

This plan calls for about two-thirds going to the state Game Commission. The agricultural land would go to Penn state, Spring Creek would go to the Fish and Boat Commission, and the remainder would go to Benner Township.

Inmate Found: Centre County prisoner Zachariah Johnson, 21, escaped from his work release Feb. 19 but was captured again Monday after he crashed a stolen vehicle during a police chase in Williamsport, the Centre Daily Times reported.

Campus Road Closed: Part of Pollock Road was closed Monday as construction continues on the Millenium Science Complex. The Centre Daily Times reported that construction should be completed by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
