A powerful geomagnetic storm gave skywatchers across Pennsylvania, including in Centre County, a dazzling light show on Thursday.
The northern lights were visible across central PA, thanks to a coronal mass ejection earlier this week that sent plasma and magnetic fields hurtling toward the Earth. That triggered what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration termed a “severe” geomagnetic storm that caused the aurora to be visible here and elsewhere across the Northeast on Thursday night.
Here’s how the northern lights looked around Centre County.
