A New York man died after a crash involving two tractor-trailers Monday night on Interstate 80 near Bellefonte.

At about 6:30 p.m., the driver of the first vehicle, a 2018 Kenworth W900, was traveling northbound on Interstate 99 and entered the Interstate 80 east on-ramp, according to state police at Rockview. As he negotiated the curve, the load in his trailer shifted, causing the vehicle to overturn on I-80 eastbound.

Jose Chirinos Ortega, a 35-year-old from Bay Shore, N.Y., was driving a 1999 International Harvester 9800 on I-80 eastbound and struck the overturned Kenworth. Chirinos Ortega was ejected from his truck and died at the scene, police wrote.

The driver of the first vehicle was not injured, according to the crash report.

I-80 eastbound was closed for about 12 hours between exits 161 and 173.

The crash remains under investigation.

Bellefonte EMS, Mount Nittany Paramedic, Logan and Undine fire companies, Centre County Emergency Management, PennDOT and Eagle Towing assisted at the scene.
