For the third time in 13 months, Penn State and the surrounding community will gather on the Old Main lawn for a candlelight vigil.

On Saturday, several students announced plans for Sunday night’s vigil that will honor the victims of the horrible tragedy in Newtown, Conn. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Facebook event can be found here.

The Latino Caucus sent out this message via its Facebook page:

‘This Sunday night at 7 p.m. there will be a candlelight vigil to honor the victims of the Connecticut school shooting. If you would like to attend, please bring candles/lighters and friends to Old Main lawn.

‘We understand that this is the time when many of you may be studying for your finals, however we ask that you take a break and join the rest of the Penn State community in showing respect to those who were victims of this tragedy.’

Last night, several candles and letters to the victims were placed on the Old Main patio.

Whether it’s raising money in memory of the Virginia Tech victims, helping our friends in Alabama after a natural disaster, or trying to rid of pediatric cancer, Penn State students always rally around and support those in need.

I expect Sunday to be no different.

If you cannot attend Sunday night’s vigil, feel free to send any cards or letters to the following address:
