An overfilled Dumpster released the grease that closed a downtown street Monday night, State College police said.
It happened about 8:50 p.m. at 111 Sowers St., according to a police report. Police said an employee of Maki Yaki, 407 E. Beaver Ave., deposited three containers of used grease into the Dumpster.
But the container was already full, leaving the grease to ooze onto the street, police said.
Officials closed the 100 block of Sowers Street — and part of Calder Way — for four hours as they dealt with the clean-up, according to the report.
Police said the borough code office is conducting a follow-up investigation.
If any violations were committed, police said, they will be classified as ordinance violations. Breaking a borough ordinance is considered a summary offense.
