The Paterno family will join the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance as keynote speakers at the Child Abuse Prevention Month Breakfast on April 10 in Harrisburg.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and PFSA organizes events in an effort to raise the awareness of child abuse and educate individuals about its prevention. Those who observe the event are often identifiable by their blue ribbons.

Members of the Paterno family will serve as the morning’s keynote speakers. According to the event press release, they will discuss the importance of recognizing, identifying and reporting suspected child abuse. The breakfast runs from 8-9:30 a.m. April 10, at the Hilton Harrisburg in Market Square.

“We are pleased to welcome the Paterno family as we kick off Child Abuse Awareness Month. We believe that what they have to share will be helpful to many people. Their participation is part of our commitment to leading the state in creating awareness and educational trainings to prevent and recognize the signs of child abuse throughout the Commonwealth,” said Angela Liddle, Executive Director of PFSA.

Jay Paterno said his family wants to help lead the crusade to end child abuse.

“One of my father’s last thoughts before he passed was written on a pad of paper on his nightstand. He wrote that maybe the one thing good that can come from all of this is that we can create more awareness of this issue. My family is committed to helping everyone become more aware of child abuse, especially the signs of sexual child abuse. We are grateful to PFSA and their dedication to mandated reporter training programs and awareness,” Paterno said.

Tickets for the breakfast and event are $35. Complete information about purchasing tickets is available here.
