Robert Moir, 59 of Patton Township, was charged with a second degree misdemeanor count of ‘abuse of corpse’ connected to the death of Corinne Pena.
Pena’s body was found on the side of Plainfield Road just after 3 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. Ferguson Township police launched an investigation that identified the 35-year-old Philadelphia native, determined that she was dumped from a car, and has now led to criminal charges.
While the results from a toxicology test are not yet back, police believe that Pena died of a drug overdose. A previous update from police stated that she was found dead inside a friend’s home on the night of Feb. 13.
‘Although this charge addresses the accountability of how she came to be abandoned along the road, the investigation into the cause and circumstances of her death continues,’ the police department said in a press release on Tuesday.
A preliminary hearing for Moir is set for March 23.
