Students were dancing, singing and chanting: “We want peace” Monday on the HUB lawn.
The scene, which looked like one right out of the ’60s, was actually the Penn State Thespians performing selections from the upcoming production of Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical
“This show is very controversials for the reason it makes you think about love, peace and war,” said Erin McCullough, a Penn State senior studying vocal performance, playing Dionne in musical.
Hair is a rock musical (book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, music by Galt Macdermot) that tells a story about a politically active, long-haired hippies living in New York City and called the “tribe.”
The musical is being performed 7:30 p.m. April 8 and 9, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 10 in the Schwab Auditorium. It is strongly discouraged for anyone under 18 to attend. The musical does include sexual content, language and drug use.

“It is a beautiful show, a tribute to the movement in the ’60s and ’70s,” McCullough said. “Anyone cane find parallels between the movements in the play and today’s world.”
