Penn State announced changes to students’ id+ Card in an effort to facilitate a valid voting credential for students who have no other form of acceptable ID for voting under Pennsylvania’s new voter ID law.
According to Penn State, an expiration date has been added to all id+ cards issued since May 7, which mees the requirements of the new law. Now, stickers with expiration dates will be issued to existing student cardholders who wish to use their id+ card to vote. However, many Penn State students already have a Pa. driver’s license and will not need an id+ card expiration date sticker.
Students who request a sticker will need to present their id+ card and must ‘come prepared to affirm that they have no other form of valid ID for voting,’ according to a press release on Penn State Live.
Valid forms of ID under the new law include: Pennsylvania driver’s license, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation photo ID card, a US passport, a US military ID, employee photo ID issued by the Federal government, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania County or Pennsylvania Municipal government and a photo ID issued by a Pennsylvania care facility.
Expiration date stickers will be issued at Penn State campuses, which started Wednesday. The locations for University Park are below and a complete listing for all campuses as well as office hours can be found online. They will be available for pick-up until Election Day on Nov. 6.
