Penn State basketball got some good news Friday as Virginia forward Joe Hampton once again committed to the Nittany Lions after backing out of his original verbal commitment to Penn State in early March.

Hampton decomitted and reopened his recruitment prior to the Nittany Lions’ final game of the regular season. Coincidentally, Penn State followed up the news by winning three straight Big Ten games including two in the Big Ten tournament. The Nittany Lions also recently landed Philadelphia prospect Nazeer Bostick who will join Hampton in the 2016 class.

At 6-foot-7, 247 pounds, Hampton comes in at 114 on the Rivals Top 150 rankings and is the third Rivals Top 150 player to commit to Penn State in the past two years. Virginia native Josh Reaves and Philadelphia product Mike Watkins also rank within the Top 150 at 146 and 126 respectively.

Penn State will now continue to wait on highly coveted targets Tony Carr and Lamar Stevens to round out what could be a historic 2016 recruiting class. Hershey native Dylan Painter is also in the sights of Penn State’s staff.

While it is unfair to say that the course of the Pat Chambers’ era hinges simply on the recruiting results of this summer, another strong performance on the recruiting trail in the next several months will only help his cause.
