According to data released by the NCAA on Monday, Penn State men’s basketball program is drawing some new attention.
In fact, the Penn State saw the nation’s fifth-largest increase in average attendance from the 2013-14 season to 2014-15 campaign.
On average the Nittany Lion faithful filled the Bryce Jordan Center to the tune of 8,044 fans per contest.
That figure marks an improvement of 1,787 fans per game over the previous year. Penn State’s season-high for home attendance came in the form of 11,702 for a Feb. 7 game against Nebraska.
From a national perspective, Penn State came in behind only North Carolina (2,795), Auburn (2,002), Virginia (1,972) and Utah (1,790) for increased attendance per game.
Penn State started the season 12-1 en route to a 10-6 mark at the Jordan Center last year. The Nittany Lions finished 12th in the Big Ten conference despite frequently losing games by only a few points. Both Penn State’s hot start and those close games played a role in keeping attendance figures higher than past years.
Overall, Penn State’s attendance ranked 56th in the nation this past season, averaging more fans per contest than UCLA, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, VCU and Baylor among others.
