Penn State Basketball: Frazier Takes On First NBA Workout

Former Nittany Lion guard Tim Frazier started the next chapter of his professional basketball journey Wednesday, working out in Phoenix with the Suns’ organization.  

“Special shout out to (Tim)- 1st NBA workout today with Suns. Goodluck!!” Penn State head coach Patrick Chambers tweeted early Wednesday morning.

Frazier has prepared for NBA workouts in State College and his hometown of Houston, Texas over the past several weeks. The former Nittany Lion recently took part in the Portsmouth Invitational against fellow senior college basketball players and performed well, averaging roughly 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game over the three-day event. Frazier also shined during physical testing which showcased his vertical leaping abilities as well as quickness and speed.

In all likelihood Frazier will make the rounds to several NBA camps much like former Nittany Lions, Jeff Brooks and Talor Battle did following their senior seasons.

All things considered it remains fairly unlikely that Frazier will find himself drafted (the draft is short and the talent pool is large) but if he is able to impress with his speed and court vision there isn’t any reason he couldn’t get some looks as a free agent. Both Brooks and Battle played summer league games for NBA squads before finally ending up overseas.

Even if an NBA future isn’t in the cards for Frazier, these workouts are still an important part of the process that could see him land overseas in one of the many popular European leagues.

If Frazier is picked up by an NBA team though he would be the seventh Nittany Lion to make the league since 1989. Chris Babb is the only player with Penn State ties currently playing in the NBA although Babb played only two years at Penn State before transferring to Iowa State. Babb currently plays for the Boston Celtics where he has seen action in 14 games after getting signed as a free agent late in the season.
