Less than a week before the Rose Bowl, Penn State linebacker Jason Cabinda announced on Wednesday afternoon that he will be returning for his senior season.
‘After speaking to those closest to me who have my best interests at heart,’ Cabinda said in a message posted on Twitter, ‘I believe it would be best to completely focus on beating USC in the Rose Bowl. I am very excited to announce that I will be returning for my senior year.’
For Penn State on the field it means returning the team’s third leading tackler despite only playing in eight games this season. Perhaps more importantly, Cabinda’s return is a key piece to Penn State’s heart and soul on the defensive side of the ball. Cabinda is as respected for his play as for his work and words off the field.
He is the second Penn State player to officially announce his return for a senior season. Tight end Mike Gesicki did the same last week.
