Penn State football picked up another 2016 recruit when New Jersey native Michael Dwumfour verbally committed late Tuesday afternoon.

“Penn State and Pitt are my top two,” Dwumfour had tweeted earlier this week. The three star defensive end picked up an offer from Penn State over the weekend and according to NJ.com wasn’t going to wait much longer to make his choice.

So far, James Franklin and his staff have a dozen verbal commitments for the 2016 class with six commitments coming since the middle of May. A commitment from Dwumfour gives the Nittany Lions a second prospect on the defensive line alongside Maryland product Shane Simmons.

While Dwumfour might not be the headliner of Penn State’s class, the fact that Penn State’s staff offered him a scholarship after seeing an in-person performance might just speak volumes about his potential. And as always, recruiting rankings are only part of the equation. Lots of prospects don’t live up to the hype and many others exceed expectations.

However Dwumfour’s career pans out, Penn State fans will undoubtedly enjoy another recruiting victory over their regional foes now that Dwumfour has decided to call Happy Valley home.
