Penn State football has been recruiting the defensive front hard the past few weeks but the latest bit of recruiting news comes from the other side of the ball all together.

The good news for fans? Melbourne, Fla., Viera four-star receiver Tre Nixon has Penn State in his Top 10 along with programs like Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. 46 teams have offered the talented pass catcher during the recruiting process. Nixon tweeted out his Top 10 earlier this week.

According to recruiting outlets Nixon has already visited Penn State once and will take yet another visit later in July. Prospects can only take five official visits, where schools can roll out the red carpet for a player.

It’s unknown if Penn State will receive one of those from Nixon just yet, but with only 10 schools left, the Nittany Lions only have to worry about beating out five of them for a shot to show Nixon all of the bells and whistle Happy Valley has to offer.

Nixon is listed as No. 43 receiver in the nation according to 247Sports Composite rankings, he also comes in as the 35th best player in Florida.

Penn State’s class of 2016 is 15 members large after Illinois four-star end Daniel Joseph picked the Lions Tuesday afternoon. He became the fifth linemen to join the Nittany Lions on defense making for a hard-hitting 2016 haul.

Having reportedly found Nixon during a satellite camp held last season, Penn State is already reaping the benefits of going to unconventional locations to spread the program’s message. While James Franklin won’t win many battles in the south, even just winning one or two a class could help start to funnel some of the nation’s premier talent a little farther north.
