Penn State football’s practice facility is getting a makeover.
The school announced a $1.5 million project on Friday to replace the artificial turf in Holuba Hall and totally revamp the field dimensions.
Two 80-yard fields will be replaced by one 120-yard field.
The 118,000-square-foot indoor practice facility is 26 years old and will also see renovations to its storm water drainage issues. New all-season awnings will prevent rainwater from entering the building when the south-facing overhead doors are open.
The project will be paid for from the Intercollegiate Athletics self-supporting funds.
Penn State coach Bill O’Brien was asked Wednesday in Richmond, Va. about the advantages of potential changes to Holuba Hall but did not elaborate, saying it’s in the process of being evaluated.
‘I do know on the inside we’re thinking about a different field setup in there,’ he said.
