While both Tyler Davis and Joey Julius were serviceable at the kicking positions this past season, that hasn’t stopped Penn State from looking ahead towards the future. And as such three-star kicking prospect Alex Barbir from Cumming, Georgia verbally committed to the Nittany Lions on Tuesday morning.
Barbir had previously been verbally committed to Rutgers prior to Tuesday morning’s news.
With National Signing Day only eight days away, Barbir’s flip to Penn State comes four days after he visited the Scarlet Knights. He had nine total offers, including Georgia, Louisville, and Big Ten foe Illinois.
The news also implies more changes on the recruiting trail as Michigan native Quinn Nordin is expected to flip from Penn State to Michigan in the immediate future. Nordin committed on July 10, but has since announced he’ll visit Penn State, Michigan, and Baylor. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh even visited Nordin’s house for a sleepover. While the news has yet to officially drop, Nordin is not expected to be Penn State commit for much longer.
247’s composite ranking lists Penn State’s 2016 class as the nation’s 14th-best, and also the fourth in the Big Ten after Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
