Penn State’s renovation plan for the Lasch Football Building is nothing new. The nearly $20 million in upgrades and branding is set to take place at the conclusion of the upcoming season. Construction on the Lasch Building will finish in June of 2016 prior to the start of camp.

While the general details and even some earlier renderings of the project have been around for months, Tuesday evening provided fans with the first meaningful look into the planned upgrades.

“Coach Franklin has requested this be a top tier facility in the country.” The original plans read. “The millennial generation is very different from previous generations. They have grown up with a camera in their face. They do not know life without the internet. To be successful at a high level it is important PSU consider upgrading the entire facility. This will allow PSU to communication your story in a meaningful and memorable way to recruit and parents, student-athletes, donors, alumni, faculty and staff. When you walk through the doors you will clearly understand the vision, the standard of excellence and the unique culture.”

For point of reference outside the program, Penn State lists the University of Oregon, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State University as “precedent facilities.”

While it remains to be seen what aspects of the project are actually adopted some interesting suggested concepts include.

  • Multifunctional lockers

  • Digital nameplates

  • Helmet display within the locker

  • Multi-tiered lighting controls.

  • A video wall

  • An “Experience room” that is an immersive digital experience that engulfs a recruit into a first person view of gameday.
