Don’t tell him he can’t play at the college level. He can.
Don’t tell him be can’t play at the professional level. He can do that too.
Making his NFL starting debut, former Nittany Lion quarterback Matt McGloin completed 18-of-32 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns in the Oakland Raiders’ 28-23 victory over the Houston Texans. The Texans were rated the league’s top defense heading into Sunday’s contest in terms of yards allowed and passing yards allowed per game.
McGloin is the first Penn State quarterback to start in the NFL at his position since Kerry Collins did in 2011. Former Nittany Lion Michael Robinson who quarterbacked Penn State’s 2005 squad plays as a fullback for the Seattle Seahawks.
“What can you say about Matt McGloin?” Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien said on Saturday when McGloin was announced the starter. “Having been in that league I know that it takes a smart guy, it takes a competitive guy, it takes a guy that does the same thing every day, he works at it, he’s in the office early, he leaves late and that’s what Matt is, you know that’s what Matt is and so everything Matt gets he deserves because he works for it and it will be fun to watch.”
McGloin replaced former Raider starter Terrelle Pryor after Pryor was injured during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. There has been no indication at this point if McGloin will start again next week, but Pryor has been less than stellar in his starts so far this season.
O’Brien was in attendance at Penn State women’s basketball’s noon game against No.1 ranked UConn and told reporters he was taping the game.
It’s hard to imagine that Penn State’s second year head coach won’t like what he sees when he gets home.
