Penn State recruiting is looking for its next big pickup as Rockford, Michigan kicker Quinn Nordin will announce his college choice at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Nordin announced that he will be making his decision earlier this week.
Nordin is the nation’s top-ranked kicker according 247Sports Composite rankings. He holds offers from plenty of high major schools including Arizona State, Iowa, Georgia, Michigan and Michigan State. Penn State and Michigan are believed to be the top two schools in the running for his services.
At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Nordin is roughly the same size as former placekicker Sam Ficken. Penn State currently does not have a scholarship kicker on the roster. The job will likely go to either redshirt freshman Joe Julius or Tyler Davis. Julius is the favorite to win the starting position for field goal duty.
If Penn State is able to land Nordin, it would give the Nittany Lions their second major special teams commitment in the 2016 recruiting class. While it may not be a glamorous position Penn State added punter Blake Gillikin to the 2016 recruiting class a few weeks ago.
The Atlanta native is ranked as the fourth-best 2016 punter by Kohl’s Kicking and Punting.
