Penn State Football: Redd Meets With USC for 3 Hours; Fera Interested in Texas, ESPN Says

Penn State junior tailback Silas Redd met with USC coach Lane Kiffin for three hours in Connecticut on Thursday and a source said ‘it went really well,’ ESPN is reporting.

Redd may travel to California for a visit on Saturday and he could decide as early as Monday whether he intends to transfer.

ESPN also is reporting that redshirt junior kicker Anthony Fera has contacted Texas about joining its program. He is from Cypress, Texas. 

Coach Bill O’Brien, asked in Chicago at Big Ten Media Days whether any players had notified him of their intent to transfer, said: ‘Right now, no.’

ESPN is reporting that Penn State junior tailback Silas Redd was scheduled to meet with USC coach Lane Kiffin Thursday morning to explore the possibility of transferring to the school in wake of the severe NCAA sanctions handed down against the Nittany Lions.

Redd, who would be eligible to play immediately for the Trojans, was supposed to be one of three players attending the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, but he was scratched and replaced by linebacker Michael Mauti.

Coach Bill O’Brien said ‘no’ when asked if he had an update on Redd’s status Thursday afternoon in the Windy City.

Penn State junior tailback Silas Redd is being courted by USC.

ESPN’s Joe Schad reported late Monday night that USC has notified the Penn State coaching staff of its interest in Redd.

The NCAA announced Monday that all Penn State players can transfer with no restrictions, and won’t have to sit out a season, after handing down heavy sanctions against the Nittany Lions.

Once players tells their school they want to transfer, interested colleges must inform Penn State of their intentions to pursue the player.

A year ago, in his first season as a starter for the Nittany Lions, Redd rushed for 1,241 yards on 244 carries, scored seven touchdowns and was named second-team all-Big Ten Conference.

In October, Redd led all major college running backs in rushing with 703 yards on 133 carries while stringing together five consecutive 100-yard games.

Redd, a 5-foot-10, 210-pounder, backed up Evan Royster, Penn State’s all-time leading rusher and current Washington Redskins tailback, in 2010, when as a true freshman, Redd managed 437 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
