Penn State left guard Miles Dieffenbach has suffered a “serious knee injury” according to Penn State recruiting and team site Lions247.
Dieffenbach was slated to start on an already thin offensive line this season and was one of only two Nittany Lions with considerable experience on the line last year.
Team sources confirmed to StateCollege.com that Dieffenbach was injured but the extentent of the injury is unknown as neither Penn State nor head coach James Franklin have addressed the issue publicly.
Franklin has stated on numerous occasions that he will not talk about injuries, although it remains to be seen if that pertains to season ending injuries that would make a player’s absence far more obvious to opposing teams rather than bumps and bruises sustained throughout the season.
Dieffenbach was not at practice Sunday and tackle Andrew Nelson and center Angelo Mangiro were also not in attendance during the morning workout.
Penn State’s offensive line has been a work in progress following the graduation of John Urschel, Adam Gress, Eric Shrive, and Ty Howle. New offensive line coach Herb Hand will have his work cut out for him this spring and summer, but the ever energetic and positive position leader tweeted last night to try and perhaps calm a uneasy Sunday afternoon for Nittany Lion fans.
“After grading our film from yesterday’s work, I’m SO excited about the future for the #LionOfScrimmage Unit.” Hand tweeted. “#JustScratchingTheSurface”
