Three former Penn State football players are getting one more chance to toss on the helmet and shoulder pads at the collegiate level.
Safety Drew Astorino, offensive tackle Quinn Barham and running back Stephfon Green were invited to play in the first-ever Casino Del Sol All-Star Game at 8 p.m. Monday in Tucson, Ariz. The three will suit up for the Stars Team coached by former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt. Fox Sports Arizona will televise.
Astorino, a co-captain who started in a team-high 40 games over his career, finished second on the team with 85 tackles, earning honorable mention honors in the Big Ten.
Barham has started the last 26 games for the Nittany Lions and helped solidify an offensive line that allowed the fewest number of the sacks (14) in the conference.
Green, in Joe Paterno’s doghouse for much of the 2011 season, came on strong toward the end and finished with 266 yards and six touchdown in eight games. His best moment came in a 20-14 victory at Ohio State, where Green finished with 93 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
The trio brings the total number of Penn State seniors playing in a postseason all-star game to eight. Devon Still, Jack Crawford, Johnnie Troutman and D’Anton Lynn will play in the Jan. 28 Senior Bowl. Likewise, safety Nick Sukay will play in the Jan. 21 East-West Shrine Game (as a linebacker).
