Penn State’s rocky few weeks on the recruiting trail took a positive turn as three-star inside linebacker Tyler Elsdon verbally committed to the Nittany Lions’ 2020 class on Tuesday afternoon.

Elsdon, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect out of North Schuylkill High School in Ashland, Pa., is the seventh commitment in the month of June and the fifth since Friday for Penn State.

According to the 247 Network, Elsdon is rated the 14th best prospect in the state and the 45th best inside linebacker in the 2020 class. Elsdon reportedly turned down offers from the likes of Army, Bowling Green and Buffalo before choosing the Nittany Lions.

Elsdon is the second linebacker to have verbally committed to Penn State’s 2020 haul as Elsdon joins Maryland product Curtis Jacobs who committed to the Nittany Lions back in February. Jacobs is listed as an outside linebacker.

‘I am honored, blessed and extremely grateful to announce that I will be saying home and will be committing to Penn State University,’ Elsdon said on Twitter. ‘Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, high school and community for your support.’

Despite a handful of decommitments that have resulted in an up-and-down month of June for James Franklin and his staff, Penn State sits with the fourth best recruiting class in the Big Ten and 19th best in the nation. A class just 13 members deeps will miss the likes of Top PA prospect Julian Fleming, but with many months to go before Signing Day, will likely round out just fine without him.

Defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah, who committed to Penn State on Friday, is the Keystone State’s fifth best prospect and the highest rated in-state commit for Franklin and company this cycle. The next four highest players are all currently committed to other schools. Dayon Hayes, is the only other member of the Top 5 at No. 3, to stay in-state, committing to Pitt three days ago.
