Penn State has now reached settlements with a total of 25 men who say they were sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky. Six more cases are still pending according to attorney Michael Rozen.
Rozen is a partner at Feinberg Rozen, the New York firm Penn State hired to deal with settlement negotiations. In the 25 cases where agreements have been reached, Rozen says the documents are ready to be signed, and that should happen in the next few weeks.
Of the six claimants who still have not resolved their claims, one is in active negotiations and should be finished shortly, one has already filed suit in eastern Pennsylvania and another is still in talks with Penn State, but might file suit soon, Rozen said.
Rozen says the other three unresolved claims have not been settled because the university has seen no credible evidence to support the claims they are making.
University spokesman David La Torre has said the university continues to make progress with the victim settlements.
The university has allotted $60 million to pay Sandusky’s victims.
Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator, was convicted in June 2012 on 45 counts of child sex abuse. He was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 years in prison.
