Penn State Hockey: Nittany Lions Beat Sacred Heart 6-3 for Third Straight Win

Six different Nittany Lions scored as Penn State improved to 4-2-0 with its third straight win following a 6-3 victory over Sacred Heart Saturday night.

The Nittany Lions fell behind, 1-0 early in the first period before scoring three goals in a 5:06 span to take a 3-1 lead. Michael Longo scored 5:35 into the first period, only 32 seconds following Sacred Heart’s opening goal. Max Gardiner followed the Longo tally just over a minute later, and Jonathan Milley added the Nittany Lions’ third goal four minutes later.

Brian Sheehan cut the Nittany Lions’ lead to 3-2 at the end of the first period with less than three minutes left in the frame.

Nate Jensen opened up the second period scoring with just over 12 minutes remaining in the period, but a Sacred Heart goal four minutes later by Drew George kept the game within reach heading into the third period.

Mark Yanis and Curtis Loik both added their names to the box score 6:41 and 7:56, respectively, into the third period, pulling the Nittany Lions away from Sacred Heart for the final 6-3 victory.

Goaltender PJ Musico got his fourth win on the season and his third straight, stopping 16 shots.

Additionally, Penn State opened the Pegula Ice Arena construction site Saturday for a media tour. Here is a quick look at the construction so far. The building is currently on schedule to be turned over to the university in the spring of 2013.
