Penn State Hockey: Nittany Lions Fall To No. 4

A difficult weekend for Penn State hockey has resulted in a predictable slide down the polls for the Nittany Lions. Penn State dropping from its brief stint as the nation’s No.1 team to No.4 in Monday’s latest USCHO poll.

The No.4 ranking comes following a tie and loss to No.11 Ohio State this past weekend at Pegula Ice Arena. Despite the fall, Penn State still managed a single first-place vote, having picked up 30 the week prior.

This marks the seventh straight poll where Penn State has been ranked inside the top-5. The Nittany Lions are the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. Ohio State jumped to No.8 in the poll with Minnesota at No.6, Wisconsin continues to receive votes but has yet to crack the Top 25.

Penn State also slides from No. 2 to No. 4 in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

The Nittany Lions next face Princeton this weekend for a single-game series at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Then trips to Minnesota and Wisconsin will face Penn State prior to the final stretch of the season. Penn State sits two points behind Minnesota in the regular season Big Ten title race.
