Penn State checked another ‘first’ off the list as an NCAA Division I program, picking up the team’s first shutout behind PJ Musico’s 34-save performance in Penn State’s 5-0 victory against Army.
The Nittany Lions got on the board when Kenny Brooks scored with 10:45 left in the first period. Penn State outshot the Black Knights 13-12 in the opening 20 minutes.
Penn State exploded in the second period, scoring three goals to take a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
Jonathan Milley scored on the power play with 17:24 left in the period, Peter Sweetland scored his first of the season with 7:16 left in the period and Casey Bailey added another only 58 seconds later.
The Nittany Lions added a final goal in the third period following a David Glen tally with 15:53 left.
Penn State improved to 3-2-0 on the year and will travel to play Sacred Heart in Milford, Conn. Saturday night at 7:05.
