When Katherine Larimer walked on to the Penn State campus as a freshman four years ago, she followed in the footsteps of her father and sister, who are both alumni.
A senior in the Smeal College of Business, Larimer is majoring in supply chain and information systems. She’s involved in the campus and State College community. She is a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, as well as one of the student chairs for the Out of the Darkness 5K Community Walk, which raises awareness for suicide prevention.
Some of Larimer’s favorite blue and white memories occurred during football games. Before college, she recalls skipping school to attend Penn State’s 2005 win over Ohio State. The true indication that she grew up a Penn Stater: Her parents gave her permission to miss school and her dad even accompanied her to the game. (Three years later in 2008, she had another opportunity to witness the Nittany Lions beat the Buckeyes, but this time on a road trip to Columbus.)
Over the years Larimer has received plenty of Penn State presents. A memorable gift from her 18th birthday: a picture of Joe Paterno with the team, running out of the tunnel and onto the field. No surprise, then, that if she could have a dream date with any Penn State celebrity, she’d choose JoePa. The setting: an Italian restaurant, of course.
